Theme:
Indian education system had been proved as one of the best education system in the world. Recently, globalisation and FDI in the field of education, has challenged the status of our education system and as such it has to prove its global competitive advantage. Indian education system undoubtedly has enough strength to prove its competitiveness. This is where ICT enabled open & distance education has significant advantages. As change agent, ICT can bridge the gap between the learner, instructor, and the market by transcending barriers of space and time. Corporate sector can always seek to talented labour force (HR), through equally progressive, dynamic education system. Our theme for the seminar is opting to fulfil the expectations of corporate sector, at the receiver’s end.
About the college: Our founder Late Shri. Mangaldas Verma, noted industrialist and Philanthropist founded the college in June, 1962. He believed in the teachings of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati (1825-1883), well-known socio-religious reformer and founder of the Arya Samaj. He rejected idol worship, rigidity of the caste system and rituals. His slogan was ‘Back to the Vedas’- Hinduism in its pristine form to be followed and also believed in the uplift of the downtrodden. Late Shri. Mangaldas Verma has a fervent desire to bring education to the socially and economically challenged sections of the society. He established this institute in the heart of the labour area so that opportunities to pursue higher education would be available to them.
The ‘OM’ symbol of the Eternity of the Almighty, remains the logo of the institution till date since its inception, ‘Vasudhev Kutumbakam’ the universal fraternity, its motto and ‘Antyodaya’ the urge to see the upliftment of the marginal man, its mission.
Our college has grown into multidisciplinary institution within a short period of time. The college has been engaged in imparting varied and relevant education, thereby encouraging students academically and spreading social awareness among them. College conducts various educational and cultural programmes that blend creativity, analytical skill, and career oriented learning. Several of our alumnae have made a mark in the fields of sports, cinema, academics and theatre. Our students have excelled in Indian Games of kabaddi and kho-kho. They have received coveted Awards from both the Govt. of Maharashtra and of India, namely the prestigious ‘Dadaji Konddev Award’ for the coach and the ‘Eklavya Award’& ‘Chhatrapati Award’ for outstanding performance at State level and the ‘Arjuna Award’ at National level.
This present two day International Seminar is yet another step towards its commitment to disseminate mass education and to reach the vision of our great founder. OUR VISION - “EMPOWERMENT THROUGH EDUCATION”
OUR MISSION - To provide education to the socially and economically disadvantage students.
To facilitate the pursuit of academic excellence. To harness student’s potentials for extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.
To impart value based education with emphasis on personality development.
To foster in students a commitment towards society and the nation
To sensitize students to environmental issues.
About IDOL: The University of Mumbai (Previously known as University of Bombay) is one of the oldest and premier State University established in the year 1857 by Dr. John Wilson, located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. University of Mumbai is one amongst the first three Universities in India and it is now granted a Five Star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The university has also affiliations of University Grants Commission (UGC) and Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Distance Education is a distinct approach to impart education to learners who are removed in space and / or time from the teachers or the teaching institution on account of economic, social and consideration. A need for such an approach was felt by the University of Mumbai and hence it established the Directorate of Correspondence Courses in the year 1971-72. The Directorate of Correspondence Courses was up-graded as ‘Directorate of Distance Education’, in the year 1985 and from 2nd June 1993 the Directorate of Distance Education was designed as the Institute of Distance Education (IDE). In the year 1993, the Directorate of Distance Education was upgraded as ‘Institute of Distance Education’ It thus acquired a status as a ‘University Institution’. The Institute is now renamed as Institute of Distance & Open Learning (IDOL) with effect from 13th February 2009. All courses offered by the Institute are approved by Distance Education Council, New Delhi, and Vide Letter No. F. No./DEC/2009/4872 dated 17/12/2009.
