Collected Poems of “October Us Sal.”: An Overview

 

“The Secret of a poem, no less than a jests prosperity, lies in the ear of him that hears it. Yield to its spell, accept the poets’ mood: This after all is what the sages’ answers. When you ask them of its value. Eve the poet himself in his other mood, tell you that his art is but sleight of hand, his food enchanter’s food, and offer to show you the trick of it- believe him not. Wait for his prophetic hour then give yourself to his passion, his joy or pain.”  (P.01, The Raven)

Poetry is also a means for expressing emotions. It is a form of literature where aesthetic and rhythmic language is used to provide a certain emotions of humans. Poems not only deal with human emotions but also deal with current social issues of that particular time. It also deals with different object of the universe.

As Deeb Says, “Poetry is a white magic.” (P.16, What is Poetry?)

Poetry is a white magic – a magic can convert humans from one imagination to other, from one emotion to other emotions. This is the power of poem and Dr. Mishra has used this power in his collection of poem in “October Us Sal.” He uses the power of magic in his poems. He has written many poem like, ‘Aatmiyta”, “Jab koi kisi ko yad karta he,” “ Jab tumhe likhta hu” , ‘Tumhari ek muskan ke liye”, ‘ Jab tum sath hoti ho’ , ‘ Jab tham leta hu.’  ‘Kab hota he prem’, ‘Range ishk me’, ‘Ma’, ‘Tum se Prem.”, ‘Jo lautkar aa gaya’, ‘Bachana Chahta hu.”

These are very emotional poems. ‘Aatmiyta’ is very soul touching poem where poet talks about ‘Dhokha and Fareb’ where a person has to face cheating in life but still he is ready to support others and decided to be a part of social gathering. He talks about religion, language and society, state and nation in this poem. He has seen many problems in his life but still he is ready to be with others. Here in this poem the poet is highly positive and talks about present condition of human where he is not happy always suffering but still hopes to live happy life. He finds happy and peaceful life in “ Aatmiyta” which means connection of soul with other souls. This poem is highly touching and depicts the present situation. Psychologically perspective is also working as one should always see positivity in everything. The poet Manish is really great in depicting present social and mental status of human with wonderful choice of words and rhyming. Jab koi kisi ko yad karta he,” the poem shows connection between yad karna and tara tutna. Poem is short but effective in presenting the human emotion when you want to meet a person and shows how much you love that person.

“ Ab tak sare tare tutkar jamin par aa gaye hote

Akhir itna to yad tumhe kiya hi he.”

 

“ Jab tumhe likhta hu” , ‘Tumhari ek muskan ke liye”, ‘ Jab tum sath hoti ho’ , ‘ Jab tham leta hu. These poems are also full of emotions of love where the poet express his love towards his beloved. “ Jab tumhe likhta hu’ is a wonder combination of words as –

“Jab tumhe likhta hu, to khushi likhta hu,

Aankh ki nami ko teri kami likhta hu.”

Poet Manish has not only written his poem on emotions but also he has taken the challenge by using different objects as ‘Vo Santra.’ ‘Raktchap’, ‘ Gathoo ki Gathari.’ ‘ Do Aankho me ataki.’ ‘ Adarak wali chai.’ ‘ Vah gili chidiya.’  It is difficult to take an object and then connect with emotions with proper rhythm and beautiful expression. But here poet shows his mastery on his poetry writing skill by writing ‘Vo Santra’. The poet expresses that an orange is given by someone to him that shows a sharing of love between two humans. An orange symbolises love even a person is not with him then an orange reminds her love to him. This is highly creative poem.

 

“Or yah sab kabhi kabhi to us ek santre se bhi mil jata he.’

Jo tum de deti ho, apne hisse he bachakar chupchap.”

 

‘Adarak Vali Chai’ is also wonderful poem can be called masterpiece of the poet. He tries to connect Adarak tea with his love. He is missing ginger tea prepared by his beloved years ago. Now after many years it is expected by him that one day she will come and again she is going to prepare ginger tea for him without asking. He is literary waiting for this day and dreaming for her coming after many years also. It is highly positive and hoping poem.

“Muje yaking he tum banaogi salo bad bhi vaisi hi

Adarak wali chai phir ek bar milne par or shayad bina mere kahe.”

 

The poet has not only written emotional or objective poem. He has also written about the dark side of the life. He has written sad poems also as, “ Girti hui Baraf.’, ‘Avasad’, ‘Kachhe se Ishq me’, ‘Chuppi ki panah me’ ‘ Muje aadat thi’ ‘Kratgna Yatna’, ‘Vifalta ke swapan’, ‘Gambhir Chintao ki Paridhi’, ‘Me nahi chahta tha,’ etc. These poems show the other side of life which is painful and everybody has to face in their life. ‘Avasad’ the poem deals with darkness where he wants to hide himself. He does not want to be in contact with others as he has already left ‘Roshni’ which symbolize happy life and ‘Pahad’ symbolizes confidence and progress in life.  He just wants to be in silent dark place. Almost all the above poem deals with sad emotions of life.

“ Aaj samja hu tab jab ki utar chukka hu roshni or pahado ki

Us duniya se bahut dur kahi kisi virane me gahre bahut gahre kisi andhere me.”

 

 

Manish has also written some philosophical poem as “Is Saal ka yah October.’ , ‘ Bahut Kathin hota he’, ‘Jivan Yatra’, ‘Matwala Karunamay Pawas’, ‘Bhasa ke Libas me,’ ‘Chandani Pite Hue’, ‘Pratiksha ki Sthapatya Kala’, ‘Itihas mere Sath’, ‘ Jaise hoti he.’ and ‘Sthagit Savedanao’. These poems have philosophical aspect as ‘It is difficult to say Good Bye’ The another aspect of life is also brilliant resented by him. The poet doesn’t want to say good bye to his beloved and want to spend more time with her.

“In sabke bich hi ab jabki tum ja rahi ho to

tumhe good bye kehna bahut kathin he.”

 

Manish is a brilliant poet, has touched almost all aspect of life. He has the power to collect all feeling in one bunch. The title of the collected poem is also appropriate “October Us Sal.”  As it is believed that October is a month of romance, emotions and feelings as the atmosphere is also romantic. So October is a month of different feelings as romance, sadness, loneliness, sadness as per the situations of human’s life. Manish also discussed about social, psychological and philosophical aspect of humans. His poetry covers almost all social condition of humans where he is sometime in love, sometime waiting for love, failure in love, to be in depression, and to be in hope, clear vision of life, unclear vision of life, to live with history, and all his expectation and habit of human life. Manish has a wonderful vision and understanding towards life. His experience of life can be clearly seen in his collection of poems. The choice of words and the title of the poem itself attract readers to read and feel the love and pain of a poet. To read this collected poem is a joy and will be a wonderful experience for the future readers. He dedicated his poem to his mother, reading his poems make us feel that he is blessed by his mother. He has also written “ Is Bar Tumhare Shahar Me.’ – a collection of Hindi Poems.
